Royal University Hospital

The Royal University Hospital, located in Saskatoon is home to five full time and one casual Clinical Perfusionsts. The perfusionist’s at RUH are members of the team who support approximately 400 cardiac surgical cases per year.

We provide support in cardiac and other surgical procedures including 600 cell salvage cases, intra-aortic balloon pumps insertion and maintenance, coordination of massive transfusion protocols and extra corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Other support services we provide are blood gas analysis and thrombelastography for all operating theatres at RUH. Perfusionists are responsible for the transport of critically ill patients requiring additional medical or surgical treatment unavailable at RUH.

Saskatoon Health Region perfusionists are research active and are among the most published in Canada.
